Jazz 2 controllers support Ethernet via an add-on that must be plugged into the Jazz Jack.
This module adds a single Ethernet port that can support PC-PLC communications and that also supports MODBUS/TCP operations.
Note ♦ |
You must configure Ethernet before you can establish PC-PLC communications or run MODBUS. |
When you select a Jazz 2 model in Hardware Configuration that supports Ethernet, Ethernet Configuration is added to the Project Navigation tree, under Tools.
When you check the Using Ethernet checkbox, the PLC assigns a vector of 26 MIs to this function.
To set the start address for this vector, use the Start Vector drop-down. These MIs store the Ethernet parameters for IP addresses, PLC Name, and other data needed for the Ethernet function.
To enter the data into the MIs:
Store values
Use Information Mode
Click the fields
to enter the data within U90 Ladder, and select Force. This will
overwrite any values in the MIs when you initiate an Ethernet
connection.
Each MI holds one octet of the IP address.

Note ♦ |
Jazz 2 Ethernet does not support OS download. |
In order to use a PC to access a Jazz 2 controller via Ethernet:
Ethernet must be configured as described above.
Both the PC and PLC must be connected to an Ethernet network, and be assigned valid IP addresses; the PLC must be assigned a unique name in the Ethernet Configuration.
In Controller>
PC Communication Port Settings:
- Under Connection Type, select TCP/IP (Call)
- Click the Favorites icon, and define the PLC, including the
PLC Name.
If there is more than one PLC in the Favorites file, click
the one you want to communicate with.
Favorites is a common, global file that can be accessed by U90 Ladder and other Unitronics applications.
It is created by U90Ladder after you have added a PLC to the Favorites list, and may be found in the Program\Common files\Unitronics folder as Eth_Favorites.evb.
Once Favorites have been created, you can access them in order to:
Import the definitions into TCP/IP Project Settings.
Select a PLC listed in Favorites to enable VisiLogic to access a PLC via Vision Communication - PC Settings.
